Band Profile: Clement Marfo and The Frontline
Words by Joe Ridge | Wimbledon Guardian
Not many artists would cite Jay-Z and Annie Lennox as their biggest musical influences, but once you've listened to Clement Marfo and The Frontline's exciting combination of different styles, it is evident they take inspiration from every form of music. It is impossible to pigeon-hole Mitcham's Marfo and his band as they offer a vibrant fusion of soul, ska, rock and R&B, miraculously gelled together by Marfo's talented rapping. This unique mixture of different styles is not an awkward jump from one to the next, rather a seamless blend of the band's various influences into one complete sound."I love Jay-Z, I've got all his albums," says Marfo. "When I was growing up, I used to listen to my parents' Annie Lennox and Phil Collins albums and Wyclef Jean is also someone I look up to. "I try to let my music absorb the whole vibe of all my different influences." When asked to describe his music in three words, Marfo says: "Energetic, colourful and appealing." The group were formed after Clement, then a solo artist, advertised for a band and a friend put him on to drummer Dion, then studying at the ACM in Guildford. Five additions later, Clement Marfo and The Frontline came into being. The South London based group are performing at the Cleethorpes Music Festival this Saturday where they will be supporting The Zutons and The Proclaimers and the range of acts the band have supporting further highlights their wide appeal. "We've supported Lloyd Banks from G-Unit and lots of other hip-hop artists," says Marfo. "But now were looking forward to playing with The Proclaimers and The Zutons." Marfo, who was deputy head boy at Wimbledon College, also had an eclectic mix of artists in his ultimate festival line-up. "It would have to be Basement Jaxx, Daft Punk, definitely Jay-Z, Michael Jackson if he was still alive, Tina Turner and of course, Clement Marfo and The Frontline," he says. Fore more information on the band, visit myspace.com/clementmarfo.

Anelka Reveals Vieira's Big Secret *
"*Sincerity should be left at the door.
Chelsea forward Nicolas Anelka has the football world on tenter hooks with the imminent release of his audacious autobiography ‘It’s not me. It’s everyone else.’ Which critics are are already labelling ’shocking’ and ‘compelling.’
The book, which details Anelka’s rise from Parisian street urchin to World Cup winner certainly pulls no punches, firing broadsides at former team mates from Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester City, Paris St German, Liverpool and Galatasary.
“I wasn’t accepted anywhere I went.” Says Anelka with heart breaking honesty.
In it Anelka exposes the bullying tactics employed by multi national clubs world wide and holds a mirror to the ugly face of football. Some critics have even labelled it the sports equivilent to Nelson Mandela’s ‘Long Walk to Freedom.’
However none of the targets suffer the wrath of Anelka as much as former team mate Patrick Vieira, whom Anelka describes as a ‘world class git.’
In excerpts to be serialised in the Guardian Anelka reveals:
“My career at Arsenal was going from strength to strength until the day I crossed Vieira, who was better known in the Arsenal dressing room as ‘Le Long.’ I was playing against Fulham at Highbury and I remember receiving a ball from Bergkamp, then rounding the keeper with ease and, with the goal wide open, somehow managing to screw the ball wide at the last minute. It only happened because the sun was in my eyes. It wasn’t my fault! Anyway Vieira gave me a glare and I knew I was in trouble, afterwards in the showers he tore into me and I just snapped, I knew I shouldn’t have, but I called him a ‘lanky limbed boombaclart.’
At first he just stared at me with his hollow eyes. Then…..
WHAM!
Just like that he slapped me across the face with his penis. Just once. But it knocked me back a few steps. It was like being struck by a wet kipper. No one could believe what they saw! Can you imagine how embarrassing it is to be smacked across the face with a 14″ pork sword in front of your team mates? It was the worst moment of my life. No one said anything for what seemed like an eternity, the silence was only broken when Ashley Cole asked “Is it my turn?” It was then I knew I had to leave. When Wenger found out what he’d done he merely high fived him and shouted “And that’s why he’s the captain. POW! Look at that thing!”"

MELEKA-GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Also check out there facts on Meleka @
http://pressitt.com/smnr/meleka-uks-brightest-new-talent/250/
Hailing from north-west London singer/ songwriter Meleka, 21, was crowned HUGO URBAN RULES winner in 2008 after wowing music industry execs as well as chart toppers Estelle and Sabrina Washington.
As well as winning the chance to support Estelle (American Boy, Substitute Lover,1980) at HUGO URBAN RULES’ headline gig in Manchester and appearing in the subsequent MTV Base show which was broadcast over 100 times on the channel, Meleka is also featured alongside Kelis and Chipmunk on the title track of Basement Jaxx new album ‘Scars’.
The American boy songstress said: “To me it comes down to having great vocals and the potential to do great things. The vocals are there and she's not scared. She just committed to the vocal. You did your thing and it was like 'OK I'm not nervous about what I'm doing, I'm just doing it' and I liked that."
She is also featured on Don E’s new single ‘Time Is Now’ alongside Mutya Buena and has been tipped as one to watch by none other than The News Of The World.
September will see a lifelong dream of Meleka’s become a reality with the release of her debut single, the funky house anthem “Go” produced by the Crazy Cousinz.
The track has already had almost 1 million views on Youtube from fans radio rips alone and 300,000 plays on Myspace.
Meleka’s is currently finishing recording her debut album which is full of songs which speak straight from the heart to the young, sassy, independent women of today in a style which she describes as “beautifully honest” and which others say is reminiscent of a young Ella Fitzgerald or Brandy.
Meleka takes inspiration from a number of musical genres and cultural influences: 'I was really into musicals growing up. I loved Judy Garland and Fred Astaire.' Meleka also cites Tina Turner, India Arie, Celine Dion, George Michael, Shania Twain, Linkin Park and Stevie Wonder as just a few of her musical muses.
"Go" has been remixed by the likes of Booda, Doug McCourt, Diamond and Sid Mercutio.
