1. Hailing from north-west London singer/ songwriter Meleka, 21, was crowned HUGO URBAN RULES winner in 2008 after wowing music industry execs as well as chart toppers Estelle and Sabrina Washington.

2. As well as winning the chance to support Estelle (American Boy, Substitute Lover,1980) at HUGO URBAN RULES’ headline gig in Manchester and appearing in the subsequent MTV Base show which was broadcast over 100 times on the channel, Meleka is also featured alongside Kelis and Chipmunk on the title track of Basement Jaxx new album ‘Scars’.

3. The American boy songstress said: “To me it comes down to having great vocals and the potential to do great things. The vocals are there and she's not scared. She just committed to the vocal. You did your thing and it was like 'OK I'm not nervous about what I'm doing, I'm just doing it' and I liked that."

4. She is also featured on Don E’s new single ‘Time Is Now’ alongside Mutya Buena and has been tipped as one to watch by none other than The News Of The World.

5. September will see a lifelong dream of Meleka’s become a reality with the release of her debut single, the funky house anthem “Go” produced by the Crazy Cousinz.

6. The track has already had almost 1 million views on Youtube from fans radio rips alone and 300,000 plays on Myspace.

7. Meleka’s is currently finishing recording her debut album which is full of songs which speak straight from the heart to the young, sassy, independent women of today in a style which she describes as “beautifully honest” and which others say is reminiscent of a young Ella Fitzgerald or Brandy.

8. Meleka takes inspiration from a number of musical genres and cultural influences: 'I was really into musicals growing up. I loved Judy Garland and Fred Astaire.' Meleka also cites Tina Turner, India Arie, Celine Dion, George Michael, Shania Twain, Linkin Park and Stevie Wonder as just a few of her musical muses.

9. "Go" has been remixed by the likes of Booda, Doug McCourt, Diamond and Sid Mercutio.
